Cuerators and FEX present Hiatus Kaiyote
This event that we put together with our brothers at FEx, was pure magic. As you may know, winters in Chicago are brutal but, on this particular frigid Tuesday evening, in front of a sold-out crowd, Hiatus Kaiyote played for Chicago for the very first time during their first trip to the US.
At the time of the show, they had recently won an award for ‘Best Breakthrough Act’ and 9th Place overall for ‘Album of the Year’ at Gilles Peterson’s (BBC) Worldwide Awards. They had garnered an astronomical amount of accolades with their freshman effort, ‘Tawk Tomahawk’ and went on to be nominated for a Grammy. By masterfully uniting future-beats, neo-soul and R&B, they made fans out of Erykah Badu, Mark de Clive Lowe, the Roots, Andreya Triana and SA-RA.
Newlife and Itzi Nallah laid down amazing sets and had the room filled with great sounds from the minute the doors opened. Sidewalk Chalk gave a big, booming, performance which energized the crowd and had people dancing where they stood. Hiatus Kaiyote gave us a memorable performance which enchanted the entire crowd. The true headliner though, was the crowd. Everyone in attendance gave so much positive energy during the show that it became so much more than just a concert, it became a celebration. We were all united to celebrate diverse and new music which is what FEx and cuerators are all about. It was wonderful to see that manifest in person.
